LH Surge then it was gone? Need Some Help Please :)?

My husband and I have been ttc for 6 months now and I just started using a ovulation kit this month. My last period was Jan 27th and they are 32 days on the dot every time. I started using using the ovulation kit (ClearBlue with the smiley faces) since day 10 and today (Feb 9th day 13) I got a smiley face I was so happy about. I have been taking it at 10:30 everyday. It may seem early but I have a 1 year old who has me up at 7 :30. Well when my husband got home around 5:00 I took another one and the smiley face was gone. I have no idea what it meant cause I thought I'd keep getting them for at least 2 days?? We did it anyway but if I missed the "surge" could I still get pregnant in the 36 hours afterwards? I need help, it is driving me crazy
