Is it possible to use Sharepod with an iPod that is formated with a Mac and put the Mac formated iPod onto aPC?

I have an iPod that is formated for a Mac, i would like to use Sharepod that is installed on my PC, would plugging in an iPod formatted for a Mac into a PC mess anything up? would i be able to back up my songs that were put onto my iPod through a Mac onto my PC?
